Life List

Herpetological Life List:  A Systematic List of Encountered Reptiles and Amphibians

only live wild individuals count • asterisk (*) denotes group discoveries • arranged by classification

NATHAN SHEPARD (N = 466)

OVERVIEW
As a field biologist I find myself struggling to document and record every vivid encounter I have with wild animals, specifically reptiles and amphibians (my main focus).  The creation of this list comes from years of field work in many states, ecosystems, and several countries.  A need has been created for me to store all of the species I have personally observed - popularly referred to as a Life List.   Collections are at the root of every field biologist; collecting data, samples, and museum specimens, but the list can go on.  In this case, a life list works as the ultimate collection - part science, part joy, and part fond memories.  This list represents a life of fond encounters, travels, adventure and most of all a full life.  And, only one thing is important at this stage of my own life - continuing to add to it!
